Dear Clients,

The Maryland State Board of Veterinary Medicine has issued new directives for veterinary care during this COVID-19 pandemic based on Governor Hogan's stay-at-home order. Effective immediately, all veterinarians must restrict the services provided at this time to essential services only. Essential services are those that CAN NOT be postponed for at least three months without undue risk to the animal’s current or future health. This is in an effort to conserve important PPE and help slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus by following social distancing guidelines as directed by the Governor.

Effective immediately, we will only schedule appointments that meet the following criteria:

  • Vaccine appointments that include a Rabies vaccine (Rabies is a public health concern so therefore is considered essential)
  • Core vaccines [e.g. FVRCP (Distemper)] for previously unvaccinated kittens
  • Exams for senior patients over 8 years of age WITH chronic conditions
  • Acute illnesses and injuries
  • Dentals requiring extractions
  • Emergency surgeries
  • Euthanasia
  • Please call or e-mail us if you have a concern and you are unsure if the problem meets the above criteria.

We will be unable to schedule the following types of appointments at this time:

  • Wellness exams for adults and seniors with no underlying conditions
  • Routine wellness bloodwork
  • Routine dentals (no extractions expected)
  • Routine spays and neuters (Please call if you have a kitten under the age of 6 months needing to be spayed for more information)
  • Nail trims
  • Routine grooming
  • Weight checks
  • Routine anal gland expressions

*All appointments will continue to be operated as “curbside” appointments. No clients are allowed to enter the hospital at this time. Please call upon arrival.

Regarding prescription refills – Under normal circumstances, our veterinarians are unable to authorize prescription refills if a patient has not been seen within one year. However, during this State of Emergency, the State Board is allowing veterinarians to refill prescriptions outside of a 12-month window on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the veterinarian.

Regarding telemedicine – We will continue to offer telemedicine services only for patients that have been seen by one of our doctors within one year as per the State Board guidelines.

  • We strongly urge clients to use our telemedicine service if at all possible!
  • Concerns/conditions that are able to be assessed via telemedicine include: skin issues, external/internal parasites, acute upper respiratory infections, acute coughing, acute diarrhea, acute limping, ear infections, abnormal urination (FEMALES only), behavioral concerns, hospice/end of life care.
  • Download TeleVet – Remote Pet Care app and link to Mid Atlantic Cat Hospital.

**Regarding our business hours and operation – We will be reducing business hours to Monday-Friday 9am – 1pm. We know this may be an inconvenience, but please understand this is in an effort to remain open and able to serve you during this time as well as limit risk for our staff. It is strongly advised to use our online pharmacy for any prescription diet and medication refills.

We know this is an incredibly difficult time for everyone right now, but know we are here for you and your cats to the best of our ability. We miss seeing your faces! We can’t wait until things can return to normal. In the meantime, please stay home, stay well, give extra love to your cats from us, and as always, if you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to call us (410) 827-7788 or email us at frontdesk.mach@gmail.com.
